Writing My Way Out

Writing My Way Out

I left home as a teenager and have always had to find a way to navigate this world alone, working and raising children from a young age. For 23 of those years, I built a career in the corporate world without support, guidance, or a safety net.

I did it by surviving.

But survival wasn't just in the workplace. It began in childhood and followed me through adolescence and into adulthood.

To understand me, you first have to understand what I outran.

  • A Fractured Childhood: Uprooted by parental abduction, five years on the run, foster care, then being returned to my mother and placed in a house that would shape the rest of my life.
  • The Survival Years: Leaving home at 14, dropping out of school, homelessness, teen pregnancy, petty crime, stripping, and doing whatever it took to provide for my son and, later, my daughter.
  • Decades of Defiance: Climbing out of poverty, surviving abusive relationships, navigating the court system, enduring financial abuse, all while raising my children on my own.
  • The Familiar Battlefield: Building a 23-year career without a high school diploma or formal education, working my way up, only to find myself facing the same bullying, exclusion, isolation, and invalidation I thought I'd left behind.

I survived every chapter.

Now I'm trying to build a life where survival is no longer the goal. A life where peace and a relaxed nervous system can exist.

I'm writing my way out.

Out of shrinking myself to fit into environments where I never truly belonged, and creating boundaries that protect my peace.

My memoir isn't just about what happened to me.

It's about what I’m doing to become who I’m meant to be. It's about my battle with mental health, what it took to rebuild a life after survival, how childhood shaped the adult I became, and what healing looks like to me.

Some chapters have already been published. Others are still being written.

Upcoming series include Coming Home, where I reconnect all the versions of myself, and Tomorrow - Surviving the Dark Days, where I explore what it meant to grow up as the family scapegoat and the punishments inflicted on a little girl who wanted nothing more than to be loved and to belong.
